PSAT/ NMSQT Test
The Preliminary SAT®/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a co-sponsored program by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test. It also gives you a chance to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs. The PSAT/NMSQT measures:

  • critical reading skills
  • math problem-solving skills
  • writing skills

You have developed these skills over many years, both in and out of school. This test doesn't require you to recall specific facts from your classes.

ACT or SAT
Most colleges require the ACT or SAT for admissions. These standardized tests offer a way of assessing students’ educational development and their ability to complete college-level work. A student’s score is an important part of the application package, along with his or her transcript, essay, and letters of recommendation. Read the application materials of colleges you are interested in to determine which test you need to take. Admissions test scores are not the only factor considered by college admissions boards, but they are an important part. With this in mind, you should consider taking the test you need as early as possible. Early scores will give you time to determine the areas where you may want to better prepare and time to retake the test.  Every student will be administered the ACT their junior year during the school day free of charge.
